There is a new generation of graduates trained in various technical aspects of sustainability. But leaders do not need to have a deep mastery of the technical details.

They do need to have a practical working understanding of the essence of sustainability – a framework within which to work out their sustainability strategy. Most definitions of sustainability are too vague to offer practical guidance. However, there is a well worked out method of teaching the essence of sustainability in a way  individuals, families, organisations and communities can use – The Natural Step, developed by Swedish scientist Karl-HenrikRobèrt.
