Uma Tasci

Uma Taþcý (Tasci) first began Yoga in1996, while studying for a Bachelor of Sociology at the Bosphorus University in Turkey. Her interest in yoga was stimulated by her university studies in anthropogy and her trips to India. She started practising Hatha Yoga in India on her first trip.  The sense of calm, joy and steadiness that came from practising yoga, encouraged Uma to practice regularly and to want to learn more.

She met a Tai-Chi master and started to learn Tai-Chi and Chi-Qung. Uma kept learning Tai-chi for 4 years and began to teach by 2000 as well. She continued to practise yoga  along with Tai-chi practice.

Uma visited India several times to deepen her yoga and meditation practice. She stayed in several ashrams and developed a greater understanding of the mind and its connection to the body and soul; experienced first-hand the benefits of isolation from a busy western lifestyle. Since then Uma has studied with various teachers and styles of yoga ranging from the style taught by Sivananda, Kundalini Yoga, Tibetan Yoga to Iyengar Yoga and more recently Ashtanga Yoga. Her years of working with the body and mind, practising experience in many disciplines as in Tai- Chi and Yoga practice all contribute to her teaching style and knowledge and  let her to broaden her style in Hatha Yoga.

The changes in energy levels, flexibility and awareness observed after practising Yoga fostered in Uma desire to seek other teachers and styles. Also, over the years Uma found herself drawn to the role of the teacher. Being a Tai-Chi teacher already, as her passion for yoga grew so did her desire to encourage others to develop a daily yoga practice and share her knowledge and experience. She has been in several  ashrams and practise with yoga teachers from different disciplines to deepen her practice and find the right place to get proper training and her teaching certificate.Uma then completed the Yoga Alliance certified teacher-training course in the ashram Yoga Vidya Gurukul in Nashik, India.

On her last trip to India she met her Rei-Ki Master and get her Rei-Ki initiation to level 1 and 2.

Uma is a certified Yoga teacher, Tai-Chi  teacher, Rei-Ki practitioner and a Sociologist.

In her Yoga class, Uma teaches to practise pranayamas, mudras and bandhas apart from tha asanas since the aim of Hatha Yoga is the purification of ‘nadis’ or energy  passages to be able to have a healthy body, mind and a soul, or in deeper level to reach to the balanced state of mind (ultimate happiness).  And to be able to reach these goals, Hatha Yoga requires to practise not only the asanas but also pranayamas, shatkarmas, mudras and bandhas.

Uma loves teaching Yoga and sharing her experience to help people find their way to peace, union and happiness.
